Photographers often present their images in a body of work elaborating on a concept or documenting places or events. BAPC’s annual One Shot exhibit provides an opportunity for members to showcase an image that can stand apart from their series of work or is outside the typical subject matter or medium the artist uses. This year BAPC has expanded the concept. In One Shot x Two each member exhibits two images that are thematically related.

San Francisco photographer Michael Jang is acclaimed in both fine art and commercial worlds. SFMOMA has acquired his work, and will include him in its upcoming 75th anniversary show “The View From Here“. His photographs have been shown there alongside those of Robert Frank, Lee Friedlander, Garry Winogrand, and Diane Arbus. He has done head shots of Jimi Hendrix, Wynton Marsalis, Robin Williams, Frank Sinatra, Bobby McFerrin, Carlos Santana and many others. He will speak and show photos about his unexpected artistic journey. Come, see his work and interact with him in a Q&A session following his talk.

Photographers often present their images in a body of work elaborating on a concept or documenting places or events. BAPC’s annual One Shot exhibit provides an opportunity for members to showcase an image that can stand apart from their series of work or is outside the typical subject matter or medium the artist uses. This year BAPC has expanded the concept. In One Shot x Two each member exhibits two images that are thematically related.

BAPC members photograph in a wide array of styles, media and subject matter. Some primarily photograph people while others focus on landscapes and nature or urban settings. There are members who are traditionalists dedicated to darkroom work; others are working in collage and mixed media. Some are using various combinations of digital media.

This is the seventh annual One Shot. The first One Shot was created in conjunction with a 2003 membership drive. We invite you to meet the artists through their photographs and welcome the opportunity to present to you the depth and breadth of the Collective’s work.

Loss, BAPC group exhibition of photographs dealing with different aspects of loss. Berkeley Art Center.

March 20 – April 20
Whimsy, a BAPC group exhibition addressing the lighter side of photography. Rayko Photo Center Gallery, 428 Third Street, San Francisco.

April 12
Guest speaker: Ken Light. Calumet 2-4pm. Free and open to the public. Mr. Light describes his work as social documentary and has published several books.
